My name is Jonathan Brier. I have a B.S. in Media and Communication Technology from Michigan State University and a Masters of Science in Information specializing in social computing from the University of Michigan School of Information. I entered the Information Studies PhD program at the University of Maryland, College Park in the University of Maryland College of Information Studies researching citizen science in August 2015. My advisor was Andrea Wiggins, but now I am advised by Brian Butler and Susan Winter.

I edit Wikipedia mainly in computers, Internet, and technology related subjects. I am also interested in improving data completeness for data used in citizen science platforms and research. I'm focusing on Lakes at the moment. My contributions come in bursts when I have the time...like a WikiOgre and often organizing and tackling backlogs like a WikiGnome. Dual class all the way.

I will edit at times now as part of my research for which I am compensated, but such activities fall withing the existing editing practices by any volunteers and are targeted to cleanup for consistency with the manual of style for processing of article content and ensuring correct links to WikiData. An example is adding infoboxes to Lakes which did not have an infobox and tagging articles with WikiProject Lakes.
