Discussion from JINR of SHE-factory results and what may be next

Here. :) Double sharp (talk) 05:45, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Double sharp: Nice, thanks for sharing. This is a concise recap of what has already been published, but hopefully is a prelude to the next big discovery. /Rational 13:47, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

And meanwhile at LBNL, Pu(Ti,4n)Lv was successful. (I also added more refs at Isotopes of livermorium.) So, I guess we will have a race between Cf+Ti at LBNL and Cm+Cr at JINR. Double sharp (talk) 02:57, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, so the paper's already on arXiv. :) Double sharp (talk) 03:16, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It seems the LBNL campaign might've been planned earlier than I thought. These slides match fairly well with what has actually been done, except that the last step of Cf+Ti is still for the future. (Ah, how long I have waited! And how much longer shall I wait again, when elements past 120 prove harder still!) Double sharp (talk) 05:40, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Now that I think about it, probably 119 will be really hard. With such cross-sections, I doubt a Bk target will survive long enough. So you'd have to use Cm+V with the penalty from having the odd proton in the projectile rather than in the target. :( Double sharp (talk) 05:02, 15 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also no recent updates that I know about regarding larger-scale production of Es. There was a claim that up to 0.2 mg could be produced, but I removed it as uncited [1]; not sure if you have ever seen this or something similar. The wait must go on, it seems. /Rational 09:27, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've not seen anything about that either. Still, the half-lives of Es are shorter than for Bk, so it's probably not going to help that much with cross-sections. Unless maybe 119 takes so long that Es+Ca can be considered. :) Double sharp (talk) 10:11, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

How the "Did You Know" feature works?

Hello and well met. I am a regular contributor to the WikiProject Professional wrestling with over 500 pro-wrestling related created articles (well, kinda with one correspondent to the Japanese language or less). In the past months I saw various users displaying userboxes which depict that some of their articles have been part of the "Did You Know" main page section. Herefore I'd like to know if one of the articles created by someone could ever be featured into this kind of section without the respective user getting a proper notification. Of course, I'm not really hoping for one of my created articles to be a subject of such importance but I heard you're experienced with this thing so I'd love to learn more from you about the procedures of this section and how an article can become a DYK candidate. Looking forward to hearing from you. Best regards! JeyReydar97 (talk) 22:32, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@JeyReydar97: Any article that has been created anew, undergone a fivefold expansion in prose, or attained good article status is potentially eligible to appear in DYK, subject to additional guidelines. I would not recommend trying to nominate an article mainly written by another user without their involvement, primarily because they are most likely to be familiar with the article's sources, structure, and subject matter (even if it is one in which you're also interested). However, I'm sure some editors would be open to a collaborative article improvement project and resulting DYK nomination, so feel free to reach out to them if that's something of interest to you. /Rational 08:40, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

revision deletion question

hey, there was a pretty bad edit on Reading, Massachussetts (link: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Reading,_Massachusetts&diff=prev&oldid=1240994324). I'm not completely certain wether or not it needs a revdel, but I'm more on the side of a revdel. Gaismagorm (talk) 18:33, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) RD applied, account blocked. For anyone who may feel that is harsh, please look at the filter log. Vanamonde93 (talk) 18:44, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
alright, thanks! Gaismagorm (talk) 18:45, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Vanamonde93 sorry for the ping, but the editor has been making disruptive comments on his own talk page, and this one might also require a revdel. Gaismagorm (talk) 19:01, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, I had an inkling this would happen. TPA revoked. I wish UTRS the joy of this editor. Vanamonde93 (talk) 19:09, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Gaismagorm (talk) 19:11, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Vanamonde93 for swiftly taking action. /Rational 20:06, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Page needs some kind of protection

Hi CR, Racialization has been for many months the target of an IP editor very committed to making sure any cleanup gets immediately reverted. Is it possible to get some kind of protection on it? Zanahary 05:37, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Zanahary: I'll take a closer look when I have a bit more time, which will probably be later today, though feel free to also ask at WP:RFPP if you think a quicker response is needed. I also see that the article talk page hasn't been edited in six months; have you (or anyone) been able to engage the IP in discussion? /Rational 12:53, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

fluorine-30

New isotope. :)

@Nucleus hydro elemon: may also be interested. :) Double sharp (talk) 05:42, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Another gap in the chart of nuclides filled! :O Hope that gaps C, Ne, Na, Mg can be filled too. :) Nucleus hydro elemon (talk) 06:51, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nice to see some progress. I'm also curious to see up until what element the neutron drip line can be followed. I'll read more when I'm on a computer; thanks Nucleus hydro elemon for already updating isotopes of fluorine. /Rational 08:29, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's interesting to see more confirmation that N = 20 is not magic in this extreme neutron-rich region, indeed!
I wonder if Sn (Z = 50, N = 126) is bound and doubly magic. Not that we'll know for a long while. :) Double sharp (talk) 09:23, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
According to the graph in doi:10.1103/PhysRevC.105.034315, S2n of Sn is around 0 MeV, so it's hard to say that is Sn bound or not. I only have access to the abstract, so I don't know more details. On the other hand, doi:10.1016/j.physletb.2024.138571 predicts that Sn is unbound, but they also pointed out that the S2n they calculated were too low for N > 82 isotopes, so Sn still has a chance to become bound.
Both graphs have a large jump of S2n from Sn to Sn, implies N = 126 is still magic there, but doi:10.1103/PhysRevC.91.015809 predicts conflicting result in graph. Nucleus hydro elemon (talk) 12:06, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Nucleus hydro elemon: Wow! You're good at digging out papers. Thanks for the info! :) Double sharp (talk) 12:28, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@ComplexRational and Double sharp: doi:10.1103/PhysRevC.108.034313 mentioned C. Not sure do they actually discovered C... Nucleus hydro elemon (talk) 15:35, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Nucleus hydro elemon: Hmm. C had already been reported in 2015 (p. 6, Table 3). Perhaps we have fallen behind. :( Double sharp (talk) 15:51, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It is already discovered long time ago? I only search references after 2020 because C is absent in NUBASE2020. The nuclides listed in Table 3 are quite complicated, some (e.g. Lr) are listed in NUBASE2020, while others (e.g. N) don't.
What should we do for the nuclides that are forgotten by NUBASE2020? Nucleus hydro elemon (talk) 16:04, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Nucleus hydro elemon: At least for nuclides discovered more recently than NUBASE2020 was published, I just include another citation. I'd be inclined to do the same for "forgotten" nuclides, but I'd imagine a good number of those are only reported in conference proceedings that haven't been published in the literature, unconfirmed reports, or retracted reports, so checks for all of those should be done. /Rational 20:59, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

BTW, I found an interesting paper on the arXiv noting that unlike the previous proton shell closures, Z = 82 isn't strong enough to keep the neighbouring isotopes spherical, except at the doubly magic Pb. It reminds me of how we heard that proton shell closures are likely to be quite weak in the superheavy region and that stability will mostly depend on reaching N = 184. Possible copyvio

These revisions by an IP look like a possible copyright violation to me: the text is basically lifted ad literam from the source. I'm not sure what to do in such a situation — perhaps just delete the text, although it is well sourced, and somewhat relevant (though arguably puts too much weight on the incident)? Or is a more drastic action required by an admin like you, e.g., striking out completely the copy-and-paste edit? Thanks, Turgidson (talk) 19:19, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Turgidson: Thanks for bringing this up; it was indeed a copyright violation. Because of potential legal implications, copyright violations must be removed and revision-deleted. Generally, the correct procedure is to revert the copyright-infringing edits and request revision deletion, either on- or off-wiki, from any admin on this list. I have reverted and hidden the text in question. Cheers, /Rational 01:58, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@ComplexRational: Thanks for the explanations, that helps figure out what to do if and when a similar situation occurs. BTW, I had looked at WP:CRD, but the explanations there didn't quite make clear to me how to proceed, at least not at first glance. Also, I looked there for a list of admins that I could contact about this, but I missed the list you mention (I see it now!), so I just looked at a list of currently active admins, and your username jumped at me because of its mathematical connotations :-) Luckily, I see now that you belong to the intersection of the two sets. All the best, Turgidson (talk) 02:58, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Turgidson: Better than being irrational I suppose :D
I should also mention that you should place {{cv-revdel}} on an article after you remove the infringing text (specifying the revision IDs), so that any patrolling admin can see it and take action quickly. Before I was an admin, I used this script to help with the process. Revdel requests are also fine, but more intended for other types of problematic content that should not be discussed on highly visible pages. /Rational 14:19, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
