Hello

I would like to know how to get a wiki page on myself, would you know how to do this? Mentallyhyp (talk) 00:05, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Mentallyhyp:. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and not a place to write about oneself. Please see Wikipedia:Autobiography. Subjects of encyclopedia articles must meet inclusion requirements with reliable sources which are unconnected with the subject and which provide verifiable information. Someone unconnected with the subject needs to have written a great deal about the subject. Thanks, -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 01:16, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to participate in a research

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

WMF Research Team

Defending at ArbCom

I'm curious as to your thoughts about the benefits of an administrator defending themselves in an ArbCom case. Marine 69-71 is the latest case, but far from singular. I'm not focusing on Marine 69-71 here. I don't see what benefit defending yourself brings. In essence, there are three options when an admin is brought before ArbCom:

  1. Ignore the case request. Result: get desysopped.
  2. Acknowledge the case, but don't defend yourself. Result: get desysopped
  3. Contribute to the case, defending yourself. Result: get desysopped

All three options result in desysopping, as history shows. Since getting desysopped is a foregone conclusion, the best possible way of managing such a situation is ignoring the case request as this results in the least amount of time spent on the pointless endeavour. Your thoughts? --Hammersoft (talk) 13:06, 29 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Acknowledge the concerns of the community. When those concerns are ill-founded, make the necessary explanations, clarifications, and corrections. When those concerns are well-founded, own the concerning behavior and make convincing assurances that the behavior will not be repeated. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 16:33, 29 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
...which will result in them be desysopped. So, why bother making the effort and time expenditure? --Hammersoft (talk) 18:58, 29 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That is not at all true but whatever you want to think, think. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 19:04, 29 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's not what I want to think. I'd rather there be fair, equitable outcomes for all parties at ArbCom. But, that's not remotely the case with ArbCom. In this general category of case, I've had one (at M6971's talk page) case be made known to me that resulted in something other than desysopping. That's 1, against lord knows how many that resulted in desysopping. It's just reality. --Hammersoft (talk) 19:59, 29 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
"Those who seek power are not worthy of that power." - Plato. Or to be more modern about it, desysopping follows the same logic as blocking: delivered not as retribution, but to protect the project and other users from disruption and inappropriate conduct, and to deter any future possible repetitions of inappropriate conduct. Being desysopped is only a "punishment" to those who view it as such. Sirocco745 (talk) 07:16, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Sirocco745: good comparison. The advice I offer above is much like User:Deepfriedokra/dna. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 07:21, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If you think the Marine arbcom case request is bad, you should see THIS -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 07:28, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I was poking through the drama board when I noticed that second ANI thread first appear. That single admin recall request has 86 editors, 105 watchers, and about 8000 pageviews. If there's one thing you don't want doing numbers, it's the "this guy did a dumb" page, which is why I plan to keep my stupidity off-wiki! People forget, but the internet doesn't. Sirocco745 (talk) 07:44, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You are wise -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 07:48, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

That one IP editor

I noticed you hard deleted one of that IP's talk page replies. I'm morbidly curious, on a scale of one to ten (or eleven), how bad was it? Sirocco745 (talk) 07:17, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Sirocco745: if you like, can restore it. I don't talk like that. 😜 -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 07:24, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Awesome...

Thanks for quickly deleting Charlee.Mitschke. I can't understand why this remained unspotted here for more than four years. Thanks to some random IP that marked a picture they'd uploaded for speedy deletion. 4 years is a huge time. Regards, Aafi 16:31, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
