Administrators must secure their accounts
The Arbitration Committee may require a new RfA if your account is compromised.

Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)
ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.
Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.
We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.
For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:03, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
How we will see unregistered users
Hi!
You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.
When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.
Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.
If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.
We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.
Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Hi Maile66. I noticed that you deleted a redirect left from a disruptive move to NTT (disambigation) per WP:G7, which isn't in accordance with this criterion: For redirects created as a result of a page move, the mover must also have been the only substantive contributor to the pages before the move.
Unfortunately, I was also cheated and requested a WP:G14 nomination of NTT (disambiguation). Could you restore all the revisions before its deletion? Thanks, NmWTfs85lXusaybq (talk) 01:27, 27 February 2024 (UTC)
- This one is a little confusing to me. I just reverted my delete. Did this work for you? If not, please advise how I shoud do it. — Maile (talk) 01:38, 27 February 2024 (UTC)
- Sorry, I didn't state it clearly. I was asking for deleting NTT (disambiguation) and restoring all the revisions before its first deletion. NTT (disambigation) should have been reverted to NTT without leaving a redirect at the first time because of the misspelling "disambigation" in its title. NmWTfs85lXusaybq (talk) 02:09, 27 February 2024 (UTC)
- There's probably a way to easily do this. But I don't want to botch it for you, so I've left a message at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#Delete-Undelete assistance requested. — Maile (talk) 03:06, 27 February 2024 (UTC)

Still here after all these years, I see: thank you for that. Ima go see what other AfDs you been in, just to mess with you. Take care! Drmies (talk) 14:37, 10 April 2024 (UTC)
- Maile, it may be the Dutchman in me, but when I look at Hofstra University rape hoax I'm tempted to delete this on the spot as a BLP violation! Drmies (talk) 14:39, 10 April 2024 (UTC)
- You are welcome to look through my edits of anything, as far as I'm concerned. I have no idea what you are getting at here. But there have been a lot of AFDs ... just within the last 12 months. The thing about AFD is, like all of Wikipedia, anybody can join in, regardless if they know WP's complicated, and often conflicting, guidelines on anythig and anybody. And you can often find a WP guideline to justify any direction of something. — Maile (talk) 16:18, 10 April 2024 (UTC)
- Just joking, my friend--but I'm glad I saw that Hofstra thing. You run into these old things and you wonder how they got written up in the first place, and how they managed to stay around. How long do you think our project will last? Drmies (talk) 16:26, 10 April 2024 (UTC)
- The overall Wikipedia project? I believe it will out-live me. Judging from the Deceased Wikipedians/2024, Jimbo Wales dreamed up a doozie of international connections when he created Wikipedia. We all have become an international family. — Maile (talk) 20:26, 10 April 2024 (UTC)

Page Review Question
Greetings,
I was wondering how I could get a page reviewed. I noticed you reviewed a page I created recently. would you be able to help me find where to request a page review for Kathryn Fort, or find out if it has been reviewed?
Thank you, --8barzmusic (talk) 16:53, 17 April 2024 (UTC)8barzmusic
- The prior article was just a random pick from the Newpages listings. Also, the Newpages reviews are not necessarily a full review. It really depends on which project the subject matter is. I would encourage you to ask questions about Kathryn Fort at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Women in Red. They can be pretty helpful with advice and guidance. For leanning the ropes, and getting reviews, it's helpful to be part of a project such as Women in Red. You might want to join up with that project. — Maile (talk) 18:14, 17 April 2024 (UTC)

Hawaiian Music Hall of Fame
Hi, Maille66! I see you were the last person to comment on Hawaiian Music Hall of Fame's Talk page, so this is why I'm asking you this: should the page somehow be split because it's so long? First off, I'm not Hawaiian. I looked at the page carefully, though, and it's not puffed up at all. Everything there should be on Wikipedia.
But. It's. So. Long.
It takes a bit to load on my computer and I look at it on my phone I sort of feel lost at sea. I think this doesn't give the Hall of Fame what it deserves because it's a bit difficult to see the article's content. Is it time for someone to split the page into a family of pages of a more manageable size? I don't deserve the honor of doing that, though. I'm not Hawaiian and not a musician.
I get the sense that the Hawaiian Music Hall of Fame is worth preserving and learning about, so I hope this can happen. If I should be asking someone else, please let me know and I'll do that. Oona Wikiwalker (talk) 21:23, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
- I wish I had an answer for you, but I don't. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of such lists on Wikipedia. You might try posting that question at Wikipedia talk:Stand-alone lists. Or perhaps Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style. I— Maile (talk) 21:50, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
- One more place might have an idea. Post your question over at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical). Maybe they might have a solution — Maile (talk) 22:04, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
Reporting vandalism
To the IPs (possibly the same user) who have lately been reporting suspected IP vandalism to me, and possibly to other admins, please be advised that the appropriate place to report these incidents, and most likely to get quicker action, is at Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. That site is monitored 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Thank you for your diligence, but please report them at the site I have linked. — Maile (talk) 16:45, 12 June 2024 (UTC)

Batman and Robin (disambiguation)
I got a note that this has been nominated for speedy, and it's already gone. Can you refund to User:Rich Farmbrough/Batman and Robin (disambiguation) so that I can evaluate. All the best: Rich Farmbrough 10:49, 15 October 2024 (UTC).
- It's quite important to check CSD, they are only Candidates. Many editors do not fully understand the CSD conditions, and some even use the mechanism maliciously. All the best: Rich Farmbrough 14:01, 15 October 2024 (UTC).
- I was not familiar with how to do a refund, so I posted about this on Wikipedia:Help desk#Refunding a specific deletion. Hope this worked out for you. — Maile (talk) 14:06, 15 October 2024 (UTC)

News and updates for administrators from the past month (November 2024).
Interface administrator changes
- Following an RFC, the policy on restoration of adminship has been updated. All former administrators may now only regain the tools following a request at the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard within 5 years of their most recent admin action. Previously this applied only to administrators deysopped for inactivity.
- Following a request for comment, a new speedy deletion criterion, T5, has been enacted. This applies to template subpages that are no longer used.
- Technical volunteers can now register for the 2025 Wikimedia Hackathon, which will take place in Istanbul, Turkey. Application for travel and accommodation scholarships is open from November 12 to December 10, 2024.
