Request for help on Eugene O'Neill conflict
As someone who has contributed to the Eugene O'Neill article, perhaps you would be willing to look at the (rather one-sided) discussion on that article's talk page regarding Emerson7's deletion of cited materials, Ah, Wilderness NOT O'Neill's only comedy. I would like to have a Request for Comment process initiated, but must have at least one other editor to have contributed to the discussion before an RfC can be started. Thank you. Autopatrolled
Hello, this is just to let you know that I have granted you the "autopatrolled" permission. This won't affect your editing, it just automatically marks any page you create as patrolled, benefiting new page patrollers. Please remember:
- This permission does not give you any special status or authority
- Submission of inappropriate material may lead to its removal
- You may wish to display the {{Autopatrolled}} top icon and/or the {{User wikipedia/autopatrolled}} userbox on your user page
- If, for any reason, you decide you do not want the permission, let me know and I can remove it
- If you have any questions about the permission, don't hesitate to ask. Otherwise, happy editing!HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 17:34, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

siddur
i noticed your edit on the maimonides page regarding siddur/Siddur. siddur is a hebrew word, used to mean 'prayer book'. so, it is not a specific document/book but rather a generic name for any prayer book. on the other hand....a capital S isn't so bad since it does refer to one kind of book.... Soosim (talk) 18:15, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
- That's what I asked someone to clarify in the note attached to my edit. Thank you for the information. On the other hand The Book of Common Prayer is the Anglican prayer book, but "Anglican Prayer Book" would probably be accurate because, as I pointed out, it is a specific prayer book that is being referred too. Because it's the fisrt time I see a wp user talking so well about traductions that can be made. And especially from french Mike Coppolano (talk) 09:21, 13 November 2011 (UTC) |
- Thank you. Merci bien. I consult Wikipedia in other languages (especially French and German) constantly. This can often resolve ambiguities and lack of clarity in the English language article. I am not an expert linguist but I have a working knowledge of several other languages that is adequate for general purposes. Mike Hayes (talk) 17:01, 13 November 2011 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification
Hi. When you recently edited George Rex, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Procurator and Registrar (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

- Yes, I know but I cannot find a direct link that adequately fits and I feel that one is necessary. (Yeah, I know I'm talking to a robot.) Mike Hayes (talk) 07:29, 27 August 2012 (UTC)
Translation of 95 year old philosophy.
Greetings,
I am trying to get a team together who would finally translate "Sistema di logica come teoria del conoscere" into English. I thought Wikipedia's list of Italian-to-English translators might be a good group to 'hit up' on this subject. If personal assistance cannot be provided, perhaps suggestions or helping point me in the right direction of who might be willing to help? Best regards & thank you. Nagelfar (talk) 05:23, 27 August 2012 (UTC)
- I don't speak Italian, although I read modern Italian with some ease. The translations I have done have been with the help of on-line translation applications. I compare the machine translation to the Italian original and try to find a compromise between the two. It is a laborious and time-consuming process that I would only ever use for straightforward subjects like a biography and one that is relatively short. A subject as complicated as the one covered by this book, is far beyond my competence to attempt (as well as my desire for that matter). Mike Hayes (talk) 07:36, 27 August 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks very much for the prompt reply Mike. I do hope I will find some as eager as myself to get on this. Sorry to have bothered you. Nagelfar (talk) 18:22, 27 August 2012 (UTC)
Italics and quotation marks
Hi there! You just made this [2] edit, which I agree with, to the Voltaire article, with the edit summary "Please read the help page on italics and quotation marks–in particular, both at the same time, are deprecated." Could you give me the actual link to that policy? I'd like to check it out. Awien (talk) 18:33, 3 November 2012 (UTC)
Hi Mike, I have just expanded your article about Marietta Piccolomini basing myself upon the Italian one. Should you feel like taking a look at my edits (my English is not very good), you'd oblige me very much. Cheers.--Jeanambr (talk) 18:40, 16 April 2014 (UTC)

John Davidson (poet)
nice work on John Davidson (poet). I fussbudgeted with your references. I trust you meant to use Cite SBDEL rather than template:SBDEL. the EB1911 article, has not yet been proofread at wikisource. 198.24.31.117 (talk) 16:59, 12 May 2014 (UTC)

Not around recently
I stumbled upon your work on How Many Miles to Babylon? (novel), and noticed you haven't been around for a few months. Are you okay? I hope you haven't found the Wikipedia community discouraging: we really do need to keep valuable and prolific contributors and translators like yourself within the community. Did you know that there is a new content translation tool that is really nifty: https://www.mediawiki.org/key/Content_translation#Try_the_tool ? I hope you get the opportunity to come back and enjoy happy editing! Sadads (talk) 23:23, 2 December 2015 (UTC)

Mike.
I am researching a Helen Hoyt who was a reporter for the Williamsport (PA) Gazette and Bulletin in the 1910s. The photo that you uploaded to Wikipedia is credited to the Gazette and Bulletin,but I could not find it on the cited page. There was an article by her on the page. There is also another Helen Hoyt who may have been the daughter of the Pennsylvania governor, Henry Hoyt. Do you have any more information or an updated citation? Possible removal of AWB access due to inactivity
Hello! There is currently a request for approval of a bot to manage the AutoWikiBrowser CheckPage by removing inactive users, among other tasks. You are being contacted because you may qualify as an inactive user of AWB. First, if you have any input on the proposed bot task, please feel free to comment at the BRFA. Should the bot task be approved, your access to AWB may be uncontroversially removed if you do not resume editing within a week's time. Speedy deletion nomination of File:The Gadsbys Frontispiece.pdf
A tag has been placed on File:The Gadsbys Frontispiece.pdf requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F10 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a file that is not an image, sound file or video clip (e.g. a Word document or PDF file) that has no encyclopedic use.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. The article Ixopo High School has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Non-notable school. No citations.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Shantavira| 13:29, 14 March 2023 (UTC)
