- I'm 100% with you on the importance of edit summaries. Particularly where registered users of WP are lazy and fail to do this it annoys the hell out of me. In this case I had previously checked the www and there were plenty of reasonable sources confirming AJ was no longer living in Fulmer.Tmol42 (talk) 20:53, 15 May 2012 (UTC)
Are we including places in Milton Keynes now? I don't have a problem with it, where are we drawing the line? Are we including the MK estates? -- role 21:27, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
- I have not broken any new ground here. The List of Places..... relates to the ceremonial county of Bucks and already contains all the other places in Milton Keynes UA already captured by the Categories for villages or hamlets in Buckinghamshire. The places I added were the only three that were missing from the list. So I am not guilty of 'list creep'. Just done the same for the Lists for Herfordshire and Oxfordshire places which were very incomplete by comparisonTmol42 (talk) 22:15, 22 May 2012 (UTC)

- Hi, thank you for your message. While you have provided external links they are all from blogs and social networking sites. None of them are reliable sources, meaning that the information contained within them is unverifiable. Therefore while you may be adding "facts", if you don't back them up with something more reliable than blogs, you may as well be making it all up. I'm not saying you are making it up, I'm saying that's what unscrupulous individuals do when trying to pass off total rubbish as fact. Please add something more substantial to back-up the claims made in the article. -- role 10:48, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you for your email. Can I ask that in future you leave messages on here rather than email me please? I appreciate that you have sent me an extensive list of references. Herein however lies the problem. The majority of the links you have sent me are for blogs, which in themselves are not reliable. Of the links that are not blogs, everything I saw mentioned her, but didn't verify her notability. You need to demonstrate, not to me but to Wikipedia (hence the need to post on Wikipedia rather than emailing me) why she is notable using reliable sources. So far you haven't done this. -- role 19:33, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
The Shreya Ravindran mystery
Hi, can you look at the deleted edit history for Talk:Shreya Ravindran please? I'm trying to work out if the talk page at Talk:ShreyaRavindran is genuine or not, and therefore if there is, somewhere, an older version of the article that existed before Shreyaravindran (talk · contribs) started randomly moving things backwards and forwards. Cheers. -- role 11:40, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
- What a mess! I have finally blocked the user for three hours, because s/he was constantly moving the article and causing a growing tangle of redirects. The article is now at User:Shreyaravindran/Shreya Ravindran. I have placed on its talk page something I found as talk page of one of the many redirects left by the moves, which suggests that there was an earlier version of the article, but where that earlier version has got to I can't discover. Now to try to explain to SV about references... JohnCD (talk) 13:26, 5 June 2012 (UTC)

Hi, I think the 'copyrighted' material you have removed from the above article is material that belonged to Wikipedia to start with, and has been copied and copyrighted by someone else. Short-term memory
I know you undid your edit, I thought I'd comment anyway. I wasn't aware I was asking for medical advice. I asked because the Wiki article on short-term memory says nothing about regaining memory recall once its gone, so I wondered if that was because it was impossible. Apologies if it comes across as asking for medical advice, it is after 1am here! -- role 00:19, 22 July 2012 (UTC)

question about editing content
Hi Roleplayer
Thanks for the message about starting my first page for Wikipedia. I am not that far ahead yet with contributing a new page (though I am working on one) and will read up further on how to do one. Thanks for the information with link.
Actually, I had tried to edit a page which lists something called the 'National Garifuna Council' for which there is no information. So I opened a page in the hopes it would be filled. (My mistake).
Could you guide me (with a link) on how to make a 'red' link (for names listed with unlisted information) ? Unless of course the Article Wizard does.
Thanks for your help in the matter. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Stjohn1970 (talk • contribs) 09:44, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Stjohn1970, a red link is simply a link where an article does not yet exist for that subject. In themselves red links are find because it shows other editors that we don't yet have an article on that subject, and they are free to create one if they choose. What we don't want people to do is to create placeholders for those links, that say "please create an article here" or whatever. That is not helpful, and will be deleted. If you know anything about the National Garifuna Council then use the Article Wizard to help you create it. If not don't worry, leave it as a red link and someone else will create it in due course. -- role 10:29, 25 July 2012 (UTC)

You are invited to the first ever Oxford Wiki Meetup which will take place at The Four Candles, 51 George Street, Oxford, OX1 2BE on Sunday 4 November 2012 from 1.00 pm.
I hope as many people as possible will be able to attend so that we can make this a regular event. If you have never been to one, this is an opportunity to meet other Wikipedians in an informal atmosphere for Wiki and non-Wiki related chat and for beer or food if you like. Experienced and new contributors are all welcome. This event is definitely not restricted just to discussion of Oxford related topics. Bring your laptop if you like and use the free Wifi or just bring yourself. Even better, bring a friend! Click the link for full details. Looking forward to seeing you. Orphaned non-free media (File:Tring.jpg)
Thanks for uploading File:Tring.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Werieth (talk) 02:42, 22 August 2013 (UTC)
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday, Roleplayer, from the Wikipedia Birthday Committee! Have a nice day! |
Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. For the Election committee, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 16:06, 23 November 2015 (UTC)

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite
Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:09, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

Happy New Year
Hi, I’ve just spent a maudlin, nostalgic hour trawling my archives and finding some not so forgotten names, you were my first ever wiki-friend, although you had a different name back then in 2004. so I just thought I’d drop by to wish you a prosperous New Year and say it would be nice to see a little more of you around the place Giano (talk) 22:14, 28 December 2019 (UTC)
- Hello Giano, I'm amazed I can still remember my log-in details! I haven't logged in for years, let alone done any editing. I can usually be found geocaching these days, it's just as nerdy but it gets me out of the house. There's a friend of a friend on Facebook that every time I see them commenting on a post I'm damn sure it's you! I'm actually in a properly responsible professional post now that doesn't leave much time for anything else other than recovering from said properly responsible professional post! Anyway it's lovely to hear from you and it's great to catch up. role 23:37, 28 December 2019 (UTC)
- It’s nice to know you are still in the land of the living at least, although these days I suspect many editors are from the alternative place. Sadly, I doubt it’s me who’s a friend of a friend on FB, my children tell me it’s rather passé these days to post there and, sadly, Instagram and Twitter are altogether too complicated and stressful. Enjoy 2020 and consider returning. Wikipedia needs dedicated content editors, even if they only monitor the pages they wrote centuries ago. Be happy. Giano (talk) 21:37, 29 December 2019 (UTC)
