Virje
Virje is a village and a municipality in the Koprivnica–Križevci County in Croatia.
Population
In the 2011 census, there were 4,587 inhabitants in the area, in the following settlements:
- Donje Zdjelice, population 74
- Hampovica, population 268
- Miholjanec, population 295
- Rakitnica, population 136
- Šemovci, population 512
- Virje, population 3,302
In the same census, Croats formed an absolute majority.
History
St. Martin of Tours is the patron saint of this municipality.
In the late 19th century and early 20th century, Virje was part of the Bjelovar-Križevci County of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
