Üçok, İdil

Üçok (Kurdish: Babek, Syriac: Babeqqa) is a village in the İdil District of Şırnak Province in Turkey. The village is populated by Kurds of the Hesinan tribe and had a population of 519 in 2021.

History

Babeqqa (today called Üçok) was historically inhabited by Syriac Orthodox Assyrians. Amidst the Sayfo, the village was besieged by the Ömerkan, ‘Alikan, and ‘Aliyan tribes on 30 May 1915, but the siege was lifted after they were paid off by the nearby village of Azakh. After a short battle on 20 June 1915, the village's population of 60 Assyrian families fled to Azakh. Babeqqa was subsequently seized by the Kurds.
