Garey is a census-designated place in Santa Barbara County, California located east of U.S. Route 101 about 10 miles (16 km) southeast of Santa Maria and 5 miles (8.0 km) north of Sisquoc. The ZIP Code is 93454, and the community is inside area code 805. The population was 68 at the 2010 census.

History

Garey was founded in 1889, named after horticulturalist Thomas Garey.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP covers an area of 1.3 square miles (3.3 km), 99.70% of it land, and 0.30% of it water.

At the 2010 census Garey had a population of 68. The population density was 53.6 inhabitants per square mile (20.7/km). The racial makeup of Garey was 53 (77.9%) White, 0 (0.0%) African American, 1 (1.5%) Native American, 0 (0.0%) Asian, 0 (0.0%) Pacific Islander, 5 (7.4%) from other races, and 9 (13.2%) from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 21 people (30.9%).

The whole population lived in households, no one lived in non-institutionalized group quarters and no one was institutionalized.

There were 28 households, 6 (21.4%) had children under the age of 18 living in them, 15 (53.6%) were opposite-sex married couples living together, 3 (10.7%) had a female householder with no husband present, 0 (0%) had a male householder with no wife present.
