Gaza List
History
Liste Gaza was created by a group of activists who alleged that the Austrian government’s stance and policies were not adequately addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. After months of protests within Austria, which began in October 2023, the founders of the party decided to contest the Austrian parliamentary elections. Their goal was to bring attention to the issue of Gaza on the political stage in Austria. Social Austria of the Future (SÖZ) and Home of all Cultures (HaK) endorsed Liste Gaza.
Ideology and objectives
The core ideology of Liste Gaza revolves around advocating for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and a just resolution to the conflict between Israel and Palestine. The party calls for Austria to return to its constitutional commitment to neutrality in international conflicts. Some of their key political demands include:
- Immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the recognition of the humanitarian impact on civilians, particularly women and children.
- Restoration of Austria’s neutrality, emphasizing that Austria should not take sides in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
- Support for Palestinian statehood and calls for Austria to join international efforts to bring Israel to justice for alleged war crimes.
Key positions
- Opposition to Austria's current foreign policy: Liste Gaza criticizes Austria's support for Israel and calls for a re-evaluation of this stance to better reflect Austria's historical neutrality.
- Freedom of expression: The party opposes the restriction of pro-Palestinian activism in Austria, claiming that freedom of speech is being curtailed when it comes to criticism of Israel.
- International justice: Liste Gaza advocates for Austria to join countries like South Africa and Spain in pursuing legal action against Israel at the International Court of Justice for its actions in Gaza.
