Rokitno, Biała County

Rokitno [rɔˈkʲitnɔ] is a village in Biała County, Lublin Voivodeship, in eastern Poland, close to the border with Belarus. It is the seat of the gmina (administrative district) called Gmina Rokitno. It lies approximately 15 kilometres (9 mi) north-east of Biała Podlaska and 109 km (68 mi) north-east of the regional capital Lublin.

Early history

The land of Rokitno was originally owned by Princess Anila Rzyszczewska. Rokitno was once thought to have been a much larger town, extending eastward to the villages of Sohov and Osnitzek, prior to being reduced by decree.
