How?
Regarding your recent CfD with hundreds of categories - I'd love to learn what script or gadget can be used to select multiple categories for a nom, notify editors, etc. I sometimes want to mass nom categories but don't do it, b/c I don't want to do it manually and each time I asked, nobody knows hot to automate this. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 00:22, 7 January 2025 (UTC)
- I used a script called massXFD by Qwerfjkl. There are instructions on how to use it and how to install it on your common.js page on the tool's page. You can only use it for categories and redirects though, hope that helps! harrz 00:43, 7 January 2025 (UTC)

Barnstar
How many barnstars have you received? Are you a bold editor? Engage01 (talk) 17:14, 10 January 2025 (UTC)
- Stop!
- I am asking you about the article. Would you have a conversation about it? Engage01 (talk) 17:20, 10 January 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, I am happy to talk about it. I would recommend starting with that in the future, as a question about my barnstars is entirely irrelevant. harrz 17:22, 10 January 2025 (UTC)
- Everything relates including the ruddy duck article which I edited. First, of what interest is it to you about how celebrities are affected in the article about the fire? Did you see how many of them lost their homes? If you want to find quotations from them and supply them to the article, that's great. Engage01 (talk) 17:24, 10 January 2025 (UTC)
- I am unsure what you are talking about as the edit of yours which I reverted was a long quote from a celebrity. I removed it for multiple reasons: it had already been removed previously; it clutters the page with largely unnotable information (for example a long description about what the fire looked like and an account of his personal experience whilst evacuating); and mainly because it is purely unnecessary - the 3-4 sentences about Steve Guttenburg and his reactions to the fire is sufficient. I would advise you to look at WP:3RR as this is edit warring, and would recommend you revert this edit for the reasons I have mentioned. harrz 17:31, 10 January 2025 (UTC)
- I was saying and reiterate, look at the size of the article. 40k. Do you want to guess how large it will become?
- Guttenberg's style of speaking requires editing anyway. I already put ellipses in it and shortened it in another way. If you want to post on this page an edited quotation, fine. It's very noteworthy how he spent several hours or longer trying to get to his home. It is unknown if he lost his home or not. The rest of the quotation is similarly pertinent. High winds happen in many places (including the Santa Ana winds, the williwaws, and the devil winds in South Africa, etc.) That belongs in the article as does Guttenberg (plus other famous people) helping first responders like the fire department. Guttenberg told the fire department to get a bulldozer (which they did). So you can see shortening the quotation doesn't apply. Engage01 (talk) 17:38, 10 January 2025 (UTC)
- Look at how Adolphus79 is making the article smaller. This would not be a good time to substantially change the article. Engage01 (talk) 17:41, 10 January 2025 (UTC)
- It doesn't seem like we'll come to an agreement about whether this quote should be included or not, but I would advise you to look at WP:N to get an idea about what is and isn't notable. If this was a normal resident and not a celebrity would we include it? Definitely not. And it seems like other editors agree that it should not be included. harrz 17:57, 10 January 2025 (UTC)

Edward Kramer disambiguation
@Harrz -- I created the Edward Kramer (disambiguation) page without knowing how to make it work. Thank you for improving it! When someone searches for Edward Kramer, I wanted that disambiguation page to come up first; but the list of responses is
- Edward Kramer Thompson
- Edward E. Kramer
- Eddie Emerson
- Edward Kramer (disambiguation)
- Edward A. Kramer
What I'd like would be
- Edward Kramer (disambiguation)
- Edward Kramer Thompson
Then there's Ed Kramer, for instance at Harlan Ellison#Support of Ed Kramer:
- "Ellison voiced strong support for Ed Kramer, founder of Dragon Con <etc.>"
where the link goes to Edward E. Kramer, which puts up the little note (hatnote?): "(Redirected from Ed Kramer)"
This should also go to the disambiguation page. I don't know how to accomplish any of these desiderata, do you? Wikipedia:Help can be too byzantine for me. Thank you for your consideration.
Larry Koenigsberg (talk) 04:57, 11 January 2025 (UTC)
- You can't change what articles come up first when you search, however for Ed Kramer you can change the redirect target to the disambiguation page by changing the link on it. I would also add the other two articles which come up (Edward Kramer Thompson and Edward Kramer Emerson) to the disambiguation page. harrz 15:14, 11 January 2025 (UTC)

Thank you for helping me sort of the transliteration/translation ordeal of 2025. Iljhgtn (talk) 19:07, 14 January 2025 (UTC) |
Question already...
So I just created a R to transliteration, and is it supposed to say "Latin" script for what it is being transliterated to? I think that makes sense, but just want to be sure before I continue. This is the one فارس حمدان. Iljhgtn (talk) 19:37, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
- So the transliteration text says, "To transliteration: This is a redirect from a page name in Arabic to its Latin transliteration." As opposed to "To transliteration: This is a redirect from a page name in Arabic to its English transliteration", as I thought it would. Though I think "Latin" characters makes sense.. I am just so used to dealing with R from alternative language. Iljhgtn (talk) 19:38, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, that is correct. The template automatically puts it as Latin because it is referring to the writing system (script) rather than the language, and all redirects should be to Latin-script titles per WP:TRANSLITERATE. harrz 19:42, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
- Is it your template? I did not look back to see who created it in the history. Iljhgtn (talk) 19:43, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
- No, I did not create the template, however I seem to be one of the few editors who knows of its existence lol. I'm going to edit the template's page in an attempt to make its usage clearer. harrz 19:46, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
- Good timing. Please do and let me know when you are done with that. Also, please reduce the number of boxes/areas where you can enter information to just the language "from" since that seems to be the only one that is actually used in the template. Iljhgtn (talk) 19:47, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
- Are you going to make those updates now? Just let me know when please. I would like to wait until you are done with that before I continue making transliteration redirects. Iljhgtn (talk) 20:29, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
- I've just done it, sorry for the delay - it took a lot longer than I expected. harrz 20:47, 14 January 2025 (UTC)

- This is all making sense to me now too, I apologize for any difficulty earlier. Iljhgtn (talk) 19:43, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
- Lastly, why are there so many more unused fields then that are never populated on this template? Could it be "fixed" to have all but the one that is used left? I tend to like templates which are cleaner and have less room for error or less things to mess with. Iljhgtn (talk) 19:46, 14 January 2025 (UTC)

R from alternative language template
You did well on the R to transliteration template, so well, that no good deed goes unpunished! I have long ignored the third option in the "R from alternative language" template which says "printworthy", do you know what that means? I just put the "From" and "to" language ISO codes which has always been sufficient for me. If it does not real good, or marginal use, then maybe you could go into that template and tinker with it too and remove the "Printworthy" field just to further simplify yet another template on language redirects and Rcats. Iljhgtn (talk) 21:21, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
- Ah, now that one isn't as simple. I would say just ignore it as it is to do wih printability. If you want to know more I believe there is a part on the template's page which explains it. You can also look at WP:PRINTWORTHY. harrz 21:25, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
- Ok, if it is safe to ignore it then I will look at that sometime later. Iljhgtn (talk) 21:29, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
- Yeah, I personally never use that field. harrz 21:29, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
- Alright then I will not either. Iljhgtn (talk) 21:37, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
