Main Page error reports
National variations of the English language have been extensively discussed previously:
|
To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.
- Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
- Offer a correction if possible.
- References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
- Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 18:26 on 20 November 2024) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
- Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
- Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
- No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
- Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
- Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed or determined not to be an error, or the item has been rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

- ... that Helmut Bauer, responsible for church music in Würzburg and president of the commission for the Gotteslob hymnal, confirmed around 150,000 young people, including 500 in Tanzania?
- This was the approved hook, and only the last item is now on the Main page. No love of music, no leading position in the common hymnal of German-speaking countries, just a quantity. "Confirmation" has many meanings, so should have context. - Mozart's Requiem was performed for his funeral, as for J. F. K.. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 02:34, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Gerda. That was removed by Launchballer with this edit, on which we were pinged. — Chris Woodrich (talk) 02:43, 20 November 2024 (UTC)

- I trimmed it because the hook I saw in prep exceeded 200 characters. I see it was bloated by @Ravenpuff: in prep.--Launchballer 03:31, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
- Sorry. I missed that. (I travel, struggle with mobile editing, didn't find a watchlist until 2 days ago, a dear friend died and I can't hug his widow.) You could take the approved hook. If you think recognizing 3 things he stood for, you could drop what's on the Main page: that doing his job. The other two are his personal achievements. While leading the commission for the singing in several countries is probably his best, how about a compromise:
- ... that Helmut Bauer, responsible for church music in Würzburg, confirmed around 150,000 young people, including 500 in Tanzania? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:12, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
- All three things seem like doing his job to me—he had many positions in the church and by all account he performed them well—but as the article notes he "considered confirmations his prime duty as a bishop" and so he'd probably appreciate it being highlighted most. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 13:11, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
- The job of all auxiliary bishops is confirmations. The special gift of this one - beyond duty - was his love of church music which made him ideal for heading church music in his diocese, and even internationally relevant to preside the commission for the common hymnal, something he and only he did. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:56, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
With all due respect to Gerda, this is out of scope for WP:ERRORS. Hooks get edited during the curation process; disagreeing with how a hook got edited doesn't make it an error. RoySmith (talk) 16:13, 20 November 2024 (UTC)

- ... that a review described He Fucked the Girl Out of Me as being about "all the ways in which American society fails its most vulnerable"?
- How does this pass the "interesting" criterion? A review described the subject of a piece of media. ꧁Zanahary꧂ 16:53, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
- Absolute dreck. Uninteresting and vulgar. We should not have the word fuck on the main page. Tableguy28 (talk) 17:49, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
- It does look like it's there to put fuck on the front page. Secretlondon (talk) 17:50, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
- The issue of swearing was raised at WT:DYK a few days ago regarding my Cock Destroyers hook and it was determined that it was a clear case of WP:NOTCENSORED.--Launchballer 18:18, 20 November 2024 (UTC)

On the contrary, I find the hook to be really intriguing - and I have no doubt a lot of other people will feel likewise.
Also, the game won awards so there doesn't appear to be any issue with GNG. The hook looks fine to me, profanity notwithstanding. Gatoclass (talk) 18:25, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
