Please explain how you judge whether an edit is constructive or not. Adding a genre to the infobox certainly isn't vandalism (unless it's made up, which is not the case). Minikui (talk) 13:45, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

The biting of newbies?
This revert and subsequent warning seems a little harsh, for a new user who doesn't seem to be aware of article talk pages. Am I missing some backstory? --McGeddon (talk) 18:59, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

Comment on My Talk:I'm disappointed
I presume you are concerned because the links lead to your own user and talk pages? The wiki-code for the links is here and or here. They lead to your own user and talk pages - it says to the vandal "Vandalize in your own space". Intelligentsium 16:28, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

Looks GREAT!
Very nicely done and very interesting subject. It's worthy of consideration for the "Did You Know?" section on the main page in my opinion. It just needs some minor spelling/syntax tweaks. I'll try and fix it later. Only logged on for a moment. Again, a fabulous and interesting new article! --PMDrive1061 (talk) 23:16, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
- If PMDrive was referring to 2,000 Romanian Lei Note, I would have to agree. Now that I have had a chance to read the entire article I would have to say that it is one of the more interesting articles that I have read on Wikipedia. Great work. :) Best, t'shael 01:36, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

You posted a vandalism template on my talk page recently, pertaining to Dave Mustaine. I just wanted to tell you that I attempted to revert 69.122.179.48's edit at the same time you did, and inadvertently clicked the undo button on your edit, not 69.122's. I hope that you realize that I have good intentions on Wikipedia, and I also hope this didn't cause you too much trouble. An elite (talk) 02:02, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

Wienerschnitzel in Champaign is closed
Please fix the Wienerschnitzel entry to reflect that the Champaign location is now closed, since you apparently don't want me to change it. You said my changes were "unconstructive". How is changing it to reflect reality unconstructive? The store is closed, it is no longer, it is an ex-store, it may or may not be pining for the fjords but it is CLOSED. Could I get some clarification over a revert?
This diff here: 1
My apologies if I do not fully understand the situation, but how was adding a population number unconstructive? You also templated the user who did the edit, and this could dissuade them from future editing as it is rather unclear what they did wrong. Did you make an error because the abuse filter flagged it for whitespace? --Taelus (talk) 14:59, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

Reversion of good-faith edits as "vandalism" [2], and incorrectly warning users [3] damages Wikipedia by encouraging good-faith editors to leave (do you see 72.183.120.48 (talk · contribs) making any more contributions?). - There's no guarantee of when your articles will be on the main page; after an article at DYK is verified, it sits around until it is moved into the DYK queue. This depends on a number of factors such as how old the article is and what other things are already in the queue (we like to keep the topics varied, so for example if there are already four biology-related facts there then any biology-related facts that have been verified will probably have to wait a day or so before going to the main page). Once it's moved to the queue, a bot will automatically move it to the main page whenever its update is due (the DYK items on the main page are updated once every six hours; you can see T:DYK/Q for a list of queues and to see what time exactly a given queue is supposed to go to the main page). Once it is on the main page, you will get a notice on your talk page to let you know. rʨanaɢ /contribs 01:58, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

+ Hi, i see you reverted my edit to the incubus song Summer Romance (Anti-Gravity Love Song). Why did you call it vandalism? I reverted it back to the album because it is not notable for it's own article. It's not a single, not a charttopper, wan't even featured on a video game. It obviously fails wp:music. My edit was not vandalism. And you saw the message i wrote on July 1st and you didn't answer so why delete it. Please stop this, you did this to someone else. Help Me!!
helpme How do I make the image smaller here4?
- I'm not sure if you're talking about the infobox image or the other, but here's how to do either. For the infobox, you can change the image width parameter to a lower number of pixels, i.e., from 250px to 150px or anything in between. For the other image you can add a pixels parameter and lower the size from the default, i.e., .--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 13:17, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
(edit conflict)::Which one? For the one on the top of the article, just change the image_width parmeter from 250px to whatever size you want. For the other one, add to the code |100px, for example: Image:Aladdin Desert Passage interior.jpg|left|thumb|100px

Great. How about if you start a page here with the following as a start:
{{infobox | title = {PAGENAME} | image = {{#if: {}|}} | caption = {} | label2 = {{#if:{}|Address|Location}} | data2 = {{{streetaddress|<includeonly>{}</includeonly>}}} | label3 = Type | data3 = {} | label3 = Meals | data3 = {} | label4 = Number of items | data4 = {} | label5 = Seating capacity | data5 = {} }}<noinclude>documentation<!-- PLEASE ADD CATEGORIES AND INTERWIKIS TO THE /doc SUBPAGE, THANKS --></noinclude>
I can help tweak it once you have something started. Plastikspork (talk)
- I did a little already but I don't have much experience making infoxes(just using them);)It seems smaller and included less than I expected. If you can "tweak it to include all the following sections:what hotel/company it's located in, city, state, adderess, fine or casual, serves:-breakfeast lunch, etc. Number of items. Maximum seating. I'm plannig on using it in an article I'll create today. Thanks!SchnitzelMannGreek. 21:18, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
- Great. I just tweaked it a bit more. I would say that hotel/company could go in 'Location', cite/state/address could go in 'address', number-of-items is in 'items', serves is in 'meals', maximum seating is in 'seating capacity'. There is also a place for an image, and for an image caption. Are there any fields which are missing? It might look bigger once you actually insert all the data and put it into use. Re: Abuse reports
Sorry for this late response (15 hour place rides are not fun =/ ). Since you'll be volunteering as either an investigator or a contactor (or both) at abuse reports, you don't do the actual reporting of an IP address. The New Alerts section is where all the new reports are listed. Reports are created by regular users that find an IP address that fits the criteria set. Abuse Reports then sees if the IP actually meets the guidelines and processes it accordingly.
Process:
- Open a new case. (Cases are found at New Alerts)
- Look for trends, other information that may help the responsible organization in identifying the abusive user in the Contribs log)
- This is the Investigation part.
- Contact the organization.
- This is the Contact part.
Remember to move the wikilink to the corresponding section when you investigate and contact. =D
I know the moving can get complicated, so I'll try to automate the process by using a bot to do the moving. It would be easier to explain some things involved if we were in direct communication, would that be possible? I'm thinking of Wikipedia's IRC, AIM, or any other instant messaging service. Thanks. WP:Hornbook -- a new WP:Law task force for the J.D. curriculum
Hi SchnitzelMannGreek,
I'm asking Wikipedians who are interested in United States legal articles to take a look at WP:Hornbook, the new "JD curriculum task force".
Our mission is to assimilate into Wikipedia all the insights of an American law school education, by reducing hornbooks to footnotes.
- Each casebook will have a subpage.
- Over the course of a semester, each subpage will shift its focus to track the unfolding curriculum(s) for classes using that casebook around the country.
- It will also feature an extensive, hyperlinked "index" or "outline" to that casebook, pointing to pages, headers, or anchors in Wikipedia (example).
- Individual law schools can freely adapt our casebook outlines to the idiosyncratic curriculum devised by each individual professor.
- I'm encouraging law students around the country to create local chapters of the club I'm starting at my own law school, "Student WP:Hornbook Editors". Using WP:Hornbook as our headquarters, we're hoping to create a study group so inclusive that nobody will dare not join.
What you can do now:

Re to re
Just to let you know, I believe you 121.5%. Which is good. And I'm sure most other editors would believe you. I only thought it a reform after seeing one of your Barnstar, which metioned your history.
So, basically, you want the hacker's bad sockpuppets under one category, and your good ones under another? I would do this myself, it would be a pretty simple task, but I don't think I'm allowed. Concensus (is that the right word?) would have to be reached. Remember, I'm pretty inexperienced. I would go to an admin or something, see what s/he can do. There may be some sort of discussion/debate about it, it could get quite serious. I'm not going to do any of this myself, because, considering you've only told me and someone else, I don't think you'd want me to, as a lot of people might find out. But if you really want this changed, well, go to somebody who is a bit more experienced. I'll back you up voraciously if the need be. Sorry for not being much of a help. But I'm sure you can get this fixed somehow.
P.S. - If you want to remove that comment from my talk page so nobody else sees it, go ahead. I don't mind.
P.P.S. I'll be gone from August 6 to August 18, do you want to take over my award system while I'm gone? If not, that's cool, I'll find somebody else. Spongefrog, (talk to me, or else) 20:37, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
- Ah, another thing. About the archive. It would be possible, I think, to delete one of your archives. I think. However, archiving, as you know, doesn't actually split the page, so the history would still show up here. Hope any of this helps. If you've tried to do this sort of stuff before, I could make some enquires on your behalf, maybe that might make a difference. Or not. But I'll try. Spongefrog, (talk to me, or else) 20:50, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
- Heya, Schnitzel. I read what you said on Spongefrog's talk page. If you need any help, give me a shot. I'm willing to back you up on this. - So you've got the archives sorted? Thats good. Now it's just the categories. If you want me to ask someone, I'll do that. I'll find a trustworthy sounding admin, and give him/her a shot. But they'd see the whole story on my talk page. Is this OK? Spongefrog, (talk to me, or else) 11:20, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

re: Designing Barnstars
Hi there, it's great that you'd like to (and have) help(ed) with creating barnstars :). I personally always use Wikipedia images which are realised under a free-license (e.g. Public Domain), because this makes the licensing much easier. You should also use File:Large Barnstar.png, for your base.
Unfortunately, there is no software created specifically for barnstars (not that I know of anyhow), but there are plenty of tools which do a fine job. I, for example, use Corel PHOTO-PAINT 7 (which is not free unfortunately),I think a lot of users use Adobe Photoshop (again this is not free). If you are looking for a powerful free photo paint download, then your best bet is probably a google search. I hear Paint.NET is very good, and would definitely recommend you try it.
So yeah, basically, just download a powerful paint program (I'm sure there are some free ones around), and then play around with it. I find transparency a very useful tool, if you want to blend the barnstar into something else (for example, with this barnstar, I used transparency to blend the flag of the United Kingdom and the barnstar together). If you need other help, or would like me to expand on something, just ask :) - Kingpin (talk) 10:23, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you. I'm very pleased with it myself - Kingpin (talk) 15:20, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
- Very nice, much better than the Assyria barnstar. It's a shame that you haven't made the banner continue without the barnstar (at the moment it's cut off with the barnstar), but that's a minor fault. Overall, the barnstar itself looks really good, nice work with merging the two images. BTW, in the source on the file page, you should include a link to the images you used when creating it (e.g. the File:Large Barnstar.png if you used it). BTW, which program did you use? - Kingpin (talk) 15:27, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
- Not at all, tis well deserved :). Good luck with bringing your other one up to scratch - Kingpin (talk) 15:31, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

Yet another great barnstar. BTW, if you use PNG you should be able to get transparent backgrounds (in Paint.NET the transparent bits will be checkered). I think this means doing everything on a second layer, rather than drawing on the background, although I'm not sure about that, as I haven't actually used Paint.NET myself. Anyway, really nice, love the red and blue squiggly lines =D. Another BTW; I fixed some stuff on the barnstar template (the other one) here, when you create barnstar templates in the future, please ensure they are done like this. If you don't understand those changes, then ask. Although I won't be able to reply for about an hour, as I've gotta dash now. Keep up your work :) - Kingpin (talk) 18:04, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
- Heh, slow down; I'm going to run out of compliments ;P. But seriously, another good one . Well done for adding yourself to the project.
But about the barnstar template, you are still getting it a bit wrong, take a look at the changes I've made, and try to make them yourself :). Best - Kingpin (talk) 22:10, 4 August 2009 (UTC)- Fixed, you were just missing the two close-square brackets. Also, you were using a semi-colon instead of a colon, but all should be well now :D - Kingpin (talk) 22:20, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
- He he, good luck with that :D. I can't find any, so I'd say go ahead and create it, you seem to be enjoying it :). And you can post on the WikiProject talk page, noting that you have created it, and then if someone points out that there already is one, then no harm done; they can just have a choice of two, and the second one can be added to the awards page (although, since it's not there already, I highly doubt it exists :D) - Kingpin (talk) 22:34, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
- Doh, I thought you meant does WikiProject Awards already have a New Mexico award. Anyway, nice job, you got the background a bit better on this one. You still have the template a bit wrong though; Don't include the sig in the template, add it to the category, and create a section detailing on how to award it. Then it should be fine :D - Kingpin (talk) 22:58, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

Since you're taking over tommorow...
...you need to know this. If you are not prepared you (and me) will become a laughing stock. The RIUWSDHFSROT2½DP runs every 2 and a half days, so you have to add the halfs up. I've listed the first few days on the project page. You may want to create some redirect shortcuts to get to the page faster. And don't use the template for the award, just use the whole code. Otherwise you can't give specific reasons why they got it to each user. I think that's all. Oh, no its not. Add "on behalf of SchnitzelMannGreek" to the award somewhere if you like. If you feel like it, you can add e better image the award, it's not very good. Now I am going to apologise, because I feel bad for some reason. And thanks! I owe you. re:Huh
Hello SchnitzelMannGreek. Mario and Pikachu are owned by Nintendo, and therefore images of them are only allowed on Wikipedia if they contain a non-free use rationale and they're used in at least one article. Note that userpages, subpages, project space, talk pages, etc. don't count as articles, so they can't contain any non-free images. -sesuPRIME 16:09, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah was about to explain that myself, you could perhaps have used a better tag for the deletion request but yeah. If you use copyrighted characters in your works you can't release them under a free license unless you get an explicit permission from the copyright holder of the character(s) you used. --Sherool (talk) 16:20, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
- WP:PERMISSION is the place to go to learn how to request permission to freely use copyrighted material, but I think the odds that Nintendo will release images of Mario and Pikachu for public use is virtually nonexistent. However, images like this or this are too simplistic to be copyrighted and can be used however you like. And I see now those weren't the best tags to use. Oh well. Cheers! -sesuPRIME 16:28, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

Tamil phrase
Hello SchnitzelMannGreek. You'd left a query on my talk page a couple of weeks ago regarding "தலை டா நீ". In case you still want to know what it means, it translates roughly to something like "You're a real head, mate." It's a slightly odd phrase, but whoever said it could have meant something like "you're a genius" and could have been genuinely appreciative or ironic. Perhaps you can figure it out from the context? Please seek sources before removing content
In this edit to My Name Is Khan, you removed quite a bit of material that an IP editor had added. It is true that the IP editor did not add sources; I'm guessing that they didn't know about the requirement. You deleted their material without comment, yet it took me all of 30 seconds to find sources for the material they added.
Why destroy newbies' imperfect work, when unstead, you can try to improve their imperfect contributions with sources? This sort of situation is a good teaching opportunity. You can even use the templates at WP:UTM, which are prewritten and explain msome of the basics.
Rather than alienate newcomers by removing their work, helping them will encourage them to contribute to Wikipedia, which is a better outcome for the project as a whole. Whatever404 (talk) 16:30, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

When it comes to Bambifan101, he's easy to spot per WP:LTA/BF101. If he edits as an anon, he does so primarily via Bell South. That Canadian IP is similar, but unrelated. Speedy deletion nomination of Test page
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Apology
Hey, SMG, please accept my apologies for the warning I issued you a moment ago. Needless to say, your impersonator fooled me by using your signature. Again, please accept my apologies. Javert (talk) 17:48, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

re: Impersonating
Hi there again SchnitzelMannGreek. If I were you, I wouldn't worry about it too much, treat it as you would treat a vandal, for example, I have had (and you will likely have had too, if you do RCP) death threats, insults etc. Left by vandals. What do you do? revert, warn, and report to AIV (or AN/I) if it's persistent. I wouldn't worry about it on-wiki, deal with tit the same way NawlinWiki has dealt with the nonsense he is getting; revert, block, ignore. Bear in mind that this could very likely be a user who is trying to "get at" me; scroll down my current user talk, and you can see your username comes up the most. So my advice really is to ignore it, there's no need to find out who is responsible IMO, definitely since it's only happened once. The thing that surprises me is that this username wasn't picked up as being too similar to an existing one. - Kingpin (talk) 19:20, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
- I hadn't thought of that. That is odd. Javert (talk) 19:23, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
- Which part? The one about them trying to bother me? - Kingpin (talk) 19:27, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
- Sorry, I should have been more clear. The part that strikes me as odd is the fact that the software allowed the accounts to be created (not denying them as too similar). Javert (talk) 19:30, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

Nintendo task force membership update
It's that time again to update membership status with the Nintendo task force, which we try to do every 3-4 months to keep our membership up-to-date.
All participants have been placed on an "Inactive participants" list. To confirm that you're still a member of the Nintendo task force, simply go to Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Nintendo#Members and move your name from the "Inactive participants" list to the bottom of the "Active participants" list. If you are no longer an active member in the task force, you may simply remove your name altogether. After 1 month, on October 1, all entries under the "Inactive participants" list will be removed. Hopefully you can stay with us and continue to work on Nintendo-related articles. Regards, MuZemike 17:57, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi Schnitzel, I've noticed that you are the main editor of the abovementioned article. I regret that I had to find the entry highly advertising and thus not meeting Wikipedia standards. Grab some glory, and a barnstar
Hi, I'd like to invite you to participate in the Guild of Copy Editors July 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. In May, about 30 editors helped remove the copyedit tag from 1175 articles. The backlog is still over 7500 articles, and extends back to the beginning of 2008! We really need your help to reduce it. Copyediting just a couple articles can qualify you for a barnstar. Serious copyeditors can win prestigious and exclusive rewards. See the event page for more information. And thanks for your consideration. monosock 18:06, 12 June 2010 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Europe 10,000 Challenge invite
Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:09, 7 November 2016 (UTC)
Wikipedia:WikiProject United States/The 50,000 Challenge
You are invited to participate in the 50,000 Challenge, aiming for 50,000 article improvements and creations for articles relating to the United States. This effort began on November 1, 2016 and to reach our goal, we will need editors like you to participate, expand, and create. See more here! |

2019 US Banknote Contest
US Banknote Contest | ||
---|---|---|
November-December 2019 | ||
There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons. In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate. If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here |
